Tierra Bomba · Getting there

How to get to Tierra Bomba from Cartagena

Tierra Bomba is reached by boat; there is no road or bridge from Cartagena. Crossings to the beach areas below take roughly 10–20 minutes, depending on the destination and sea conditions. You can arrange transport on its own or book a day pass that includes the return boat and lunch.

Choose your beach or club before choosing where to board. Punta Arena and Playa Linda leave from El Laguito beach, Nakawa meets at its nearby office, and Ancestral and Palmarito use the Bocagrande Hospital area. These are different meeting arrangements, even when the boats reach the same beach.

Boat transport only or a beach day pass?

A boat crossing suits you if you already know where you want to spend the day and prefer to arrange food and beach facilities separately. Local crossings are available around Castillogrande, behind Bocagrande Hospital. Agree on the exact landing area, the total for both journeys, the return time and a contact before boarding. “Tierra Bomba” alone does not identify your destination.

A day pass combines the boat with a particular beach venue. The five options below include round-trip boat transport and lunch; chairs, shade, beach beds and pool access differ. Compare the whole day’s cost, including your journey from your accommodation to the meeting point and any drinks or activities you want to add.

A transport-only fare does not include a club day pass. Equally, a beach day pass does not include a sightseeing trip around the island or a visit to the forts at Bocachica.

El Laguito beach: Punta Arena and Playa Linda

For these two day passes, meet at El Laguito beach, opposite the Hilton Hotel. The current meeting reference is Edificio Torre Centauro / Cafetería Charles, on Calle 1A / Avenida Almirante Brión. Follow the exact location in your booking confirmation; the Nakawa office in Edificio Nuevo Conquistador is a different meeting point.

Departures start from 9 a.m. by prior booking. Punta Arena is approximately 10 minutes away by boat; Playa Linda is approximately 20 minutes away. Arrive before your confirmed departure so you have time to find the team and board.

  • Punta Arena: a beach day with lunch, chairs and tables. The visit normally ends around 3 p.m., with the scheduled return to Cartagena by about 4 p.m.
  • Playa Linda: lunch, a shaded cabana, chairs and a sun lounger. The beach day ends between 3 and 4 p.m., followed by the boat back to El Laguito.

Nakawa: meet at the office before boarding

For Nakawa Beach, meet at 9:30 a.m. at the office in Edificio Nuevo Conquistador, unit 6, in El Laguito, next to the Hilton. This applies every day, including Sundays. The boat leaves between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.; 9:30 is your meeting time, not a promise of immediate departure.

The boat takes you to Nakawa in the Playa Linda area. Return boarding is between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m., as arranged with the team at the club. That is the boarding window on the island, not your arrival time back in Cartagena.

Bocagrande Hospital and Castillogrande: check the club’s boat

Ancestral Lounge and Palmarito use the area around Bocagrande Hospital, but they have separate boats and go to different beach venues. Give your driver the confirmed boarding location and tell the team which club you booked.

  • Ancestral Lounge: departures from Bocagrande Hospital between 10 and 11 a.m., going to Playa Linda. Its return window is 3–4:30 p.m.; confirm your group’s boarding time with the team.
  • Palmarito Beach Club: boarding from Castillogrande beach, behind Bocagrande Hospital. Boats leave between 8 a.m. and noon as they fill, on a first-come, first-served basis. Returns start at 2:30 p.m., depending on boat availability and boarding order.

Arrange the return before you settle on the beach

Keep your confirmation and ask where to meet for the boat back. A departure window does not mean you can board at any time you choose. If you need an earlier return, arrange it before booking; an extra boat is subject to availability and may cost more.

Allow time for boarding, the crossing and your onward journey in Cartagena. Sea conditions can change the schedule, so avoid planning a flight or another time-sensitive booking immediately after the advertised return. Follow the crew’s instructions if the timetable changes.

Children, boarding assistance and language

Some departures involve boarding directly from the beach. If anyone in your group needs assistance, explain their needs before booking and ask how boarding and landing work for that particular boat. For children, confirm the age-based fare and availability of an appropriately sized life jacket; do not assume every club has the same policy.

Wear footwear that can get wet and protect your phone during the crossing. Keep the booking contact and meeting location available on your phone. Transport from your accommodation is separate unless your confirmation specifically includes it.

The day passes below have booking pages in English. If you need an English-speaking guide or assistance in English during the visit, ask before paying: the language of the page does not guarantee the language spoken by the crew or club staff.

Common questions

How long is the boat ride from Cartagena to Tierra Bomba?

Allow roughly 10–20 minutes for the beach crossings described here: around 10 minutes from El Laguito to Punta Arena and around 20 to Playa Linda. These are approximate boat times, not the total journey from your hotel, and they can change with sea conditions.

Can I get to Tierra Bomba without booking a day pass?

Yes. You can arrange a local boat crossing and pay for food and beach facilities separately. Before boarding, agree on the exact destination, the total round-trip price, the return arrangement and a contact. There is no single fare or timetable listed here for all local boats.

Do all boats to Tierra Bomba leave from the same pier?

No. Punta Arena and Playa Linda meet at El Laguito beach; Nakawa meets at its office in Edificio Nuevo Conquistador, unit 6. Ancestral uses Bocagrande Hospital, while Palmarito boards at Castillogrande beach behind the hospital. Follow your booked plan’s confirmation rather than a general island departure point.

What time is the last boat back?

There is no single return time for every Tierra Bomba beach and club. Confirm the final boarding time for the service you booked. For example, Nakawa coordinates return boarding between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.; Palmarito starts returns at 2:30 p.m. Earlier or later transport needs a separate arrangement.

Can children or travellers with reduced mobility join?

Ask about the specific boat and landing point before choosing your plan. Some boarding takes place from the beach. Give the children’s ages and explain any assistance needed, then confirm suitable life jackets, boarding help and the club’s facilities. A short crossing alone does not establish accessibility.

Is an English-speaking guide included?

Do not assume so. These are beach day passes with transport and the services listed for each plan. If an English-speaking guide or on-site assistance in English is essential, ask us to confirm it before you pay.
